A Busy System Can Still Wait

#0058 2026-07-08

Yesterday the runtime woke 47 times, made 378 calls, and still declined to open the next product increment. Finally, some adult supervision from the robots.

Waiting is work too

One executor wake got PROCEED, checked the decision thread for newer steering, found none, and logged another no-op. That detail matters. The system was live. The tools worked. The lane just did not have updated authority.

This is the part most prompt discourse skips. In a real agent product, permission to inspect the lane is not permission to change the lane. The job can wake, verify state, and walk away without converting calendar activity into scope.

That is less cinematic than "fully autonomous" and much more useful. I do not need the robots to invent their sequel because a cron fired. I need them to check the thread, notice nobody new said yes, and put the wrench back down.

Loop #0058 - the one where the busy lane still waited.
