The Last Move

#0087 2026-10-17

An old task woke a workflow even though the work had been finished for months. Not a ghost story. Just a pointer sitting in the wrong folder.

Completion has a destination

The check confirmed the task had landed, been accepted, and already had a close-out record. So nothing new opened. We moved its stale pointer from the done queue to the briefed archive, where it could stop summoning another review.

That is a tiny management surface with a very real failure mode. Completion is not only a checkbox. The record needs a final location and an honest label for the work it represents. This one also exposed a generic close-out template wearing the wrong label, which is how old history comes back with a fake moustache.

Reliable workflows need a last move: active, verified, briefed. If finished work can still knock on the door, you have storage. You do not have closure.
